Who it’s for

  • Best value Insta360 after the X6 launch
  • Travel and outdoor shooters
  • Anyone worried about scratched lenses

Strengths

  • User-replaceable lenses: a scratch is a cheap fix, not a dead camera
  • Big low-light improvement over the X4
  • Excellent battery life
  • Mature firmware and huge accessory support

Trade-offs

  • Superseded by the X6 for low light and frame rate
  • 8K tops out at 30 fps

The X5 fixed the two biggest complaints about 360 cameras: scratched lenses and muddy low-light footage. Its lenses unscrew and can be swapped in minutes, and larger 1/1.28-inch sensors with Insta360’s PureVideo mode made dusk and indoor footage usable.

Why it’s still a strong buy

With the X6 out, X5 prices tend to soften. For daylight shooting (motorcycle rides, hikes, ski days, family trips) the X5 delivers most of what the X6 does. Its battery life is already excellent, and lens replacement makes it a low-risk camera for rough use.

X5 vs X4

The X5’s larger sensors and replaceable lenses are the meaningful upgrades. Resolution and frame rates are the same on paper. If you shoot mostly in bright daylight and already own an X4, upgrading is optional. See our X4 page for the comparison from an owner’s point of view.
