- Rugged action use
- Helmet and vehicle mounting
Strengths
- Twist-off replaceable lenses, no calibration needed
- Built-in GoPro mounting fingers
- Fits into the GoPro accessory and Quik ecosystem
Trade-offs
- Waterproof to only 5 m
- Low-light performance trails the larger-sensor rivals
- Small rear screen
GoPro waited six years to replace the original MAX. The MAX2 arrived with true 8K 360, 10-bit GP-Log and the best lens-replacement design in the category: the lenses twist off by hand with no recalibration.
Who it’s for
If you already own GoPro mounts, batteries, a Quik subscription or a HERO camera, the MAX2 is the frictionless way into 360. The built-in mounting fingers mean no cage is needed.
Where rivals win
Insta360’s X5/X6 and DJI’s Osmo 360 line have larger sensors, deeper waterproofing and more mature AI reframing. For night or indoor shooting, look there first.
